OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING
Hospice of Southwest Iowa's Hospice House
In November 2007, two legacy healthcare providers, Visiting Nurses Association of Pottawattamie County and Alegent Health Mercy Hospital collaborated on the development of Hospice of Southwest Iowa (HSI). Jennie Edmundson Hospital generously donated five acres at 1500 North Broadway to help make this dream a reality.
With several hospice organizations serving southwest Iowa in some capacity, VNA and Alegent Health knew they had to develop a hospice program that would fill in the gaps of care not currently being addressed. Both organizations were especially disheartened by the lack of a hospice house facility in southwest Iowa and were determined to provide this residential option of care for hospice patients.
While some families are insistent about their dying loved one being at home; others relish the idea of a hospice house, where they can feel at home without actually being at home during that difficult time. The goal for HSI is to provide as many options for hospice care as possible.
A capital campaign was launched in 2007 and great strides have been made toward our goal. We continue to work to identify those that share our passion and mission to provide compassionate care for the terminally ill and their families. We wish to address the physical needs and pain management of patients while providing spiritual and emotional care to clients and their families. Hospice of Southwest Iowa allows clients to spend their final days with dignity and in comfort. Click here to read more of our story...
