At Hospice of Southwest Iowa, all families are provides exceptional medical, emotional and spiritual care. Each patient and family have a choice to receive care in the home, skilled nursing facility, hospital, assisted living facility or in-patient center.

Through a team approach, every individual on service can expect to receive:

ptimal Pain and Symptom Management: Founded on the belief that every person has the right to die pain-free and with dignity, Hospice of Southwest Iowa offers specialized pain control and symptom management by a highly skilled team. 

Medical Equipment and Supplies: Each patient can rest assure that our hospice will assess your needs, recommend  and help make arrangments to obtain necessary equipment. In fact, Medicare and most insurance companies cover these items, related to the hospice diagnosis.
 

Expert Nursing Care: Expert nursing staff provide care and education to patients and their families. Each nurse is specially trained and is available to meet the individual care needs of each patient. Additionally, hospice aides can assist the patient with personal cares, such as eating, getting out of bed, walking, dressing, bathing, and toileting, on a scheduled basis.


Psycho-Social Care: Social workers and chaplains are professionally trained to address the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Fostering positive family relationships, advocating patient's rights, and identifying and coordinating community resources are key.
 

Complimentary Therapies: Complimentary therapies can help relieve physical ailments and emotional strain while improving quality of life. Complimentary therapies are available to each patient at no additional cost. Examples of complimentary services include comfort touch, pet therapy, music and more.
 

Comprehensive Bereavement Support: Professional counselors are uniquely qualified to provide the spiritual care and emotional support. All families are offered bereavement support services for 13 months following the death of a hospice patient. Additionally, family members are provided with meaningful ways to remember their loved one.

Special Services: Each family is offered a memory pillow, hand mold and other items to help nourish appropriate grieving. Children are also provided special memory bags to assist in the greiving process.
 

Volunteer Services: Volunteers are the heart of hopsice. All patients and families may utilize volunteer services which may including caregiver relief, companionship, house sitting, light housekeeping, etc.

No One Dies Alone:  When our patients nearing the end of life do not have family or friends to be present with them, our specially trained No One Dies Alone ™ volunteers stay with the patient to support them during the dying process.
